Needs Assessment

The ERC staff has considerable experience in conducting needs assessment for various education agencies. Needs assessment is a systematic methodological approach used to explore current conditions, desired conditions, and gaps that may exist between what is practiced and what is desired within a specific educational setting (e.g., campus, district, program). Collecting and analyzing needs assessment data allows the ERC to identify gaps between existing practice and desired practice. Identifying the gaps provides a framework that guides policy decisions related to professional development, services, time and resources.

As an example, the ERC conducted a needs assessment of professional development for administrators and teachers in Qatar Independent Schools through the use of interviews, surveys and systematic classroom observations (Needs assessment of professional development for administrators and teachers in Qatar independent schools). The results provided a baseline for the creation of the National Center for Educator Development in Qatar
