Needs Assessment

Needs Assessment Research

Our staff has considerable experience in conducting needs assessment for various education agencies. Needs assessment is a systematic methodological approach used to explore current conditions, desired conditions, and gaps that may exist between what is practiced and what is desired within a specific educational setting, such as:

  • Campus,
  • District, or
  • Program.

Collecting and analyzing data allows the ERC to identify gaps between existing and desired practice. Identifying these gaps provides a framework that guides policy decisions related to:

  • Professional development,
  • Services,
  • Time, and
  • Resources.

As an example, the ERC conducted a needs assessment of professional development for administrators and teachers in Qatar Independent Schools through interviews, surveys, and systematic classroom observations. The results provided a baseline for the creation of the National Center for Educator Development in Qatar.
