ERC EdTalks – Dr. Bob Pianta
Presentation: Standardized Observation of Teacher-Student Interactions: Paths to Policy and Scale
Presenter: Dr. Bob Pianta, University of Virginia
Dr. Pianta’s presentation will summarize studies demonstrating that standardized observations of teacher-student interactions, such as the widely used CLASS tool, are a powerful focus for improving teacher and student outcomes. Dr. Pianta will describe how these tools are being used in statewide and school division policies and discuss future policy-relevant applications in PK-12 education and workforce credentialing.
Dr. Pianta is the Batten Bicentennial Professor of Early Childhood Education and the founding director of the Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) at UVA. He is an internationally recognized expert whose work on teacher-student relationships has advanced the conceptualization and measurement of effective classroom interactions.
